Updates on how Storm Emma is affecting gigs, theatre, cinema and events

As Ireland braces itself for blizzard-like conditions with the arrival of Storm Emma gigs, theatre shows, cinema screenings and events are being postponed and cancelled across the country, but particularly around Leinster.

The Government is advising people to stay indoors between the hours of 4pm on Thursday and 12noon on Friday so even if shows are still going ahead many people will be unable to attend.

However, most events have been postponed or cancelled so it's worth checking the venue's website and social media channels for updates before making the trek.

One Wednesday night promoters MCD took the measure to postpone a number of concerts in the interest of public safety.

MCD said the decision has been taken "in the interests of customer and staff safety, and in light of the widespread cancellation of public transportation due to the National Red Weather alert in place in response to ‘Storm Emma.’"

The concert promoter has apologised for any inconveniences caused.  Following consultation with the Government's National Emergency Coordination Group (NECG), MCD has confirmed that the following events will be postponed:

Status: Rescheduled to 7th April 2018 – All tickets valid

Status: Please retain your ticket for new date

Also, Foil Arms and Hog's gig at Vicar Streeet tonight (Thursday) is being rescheduled to April 13 and the show tomorrow 2nd March @ Vicar St is now rescheduled to May 3rd. Tickets are valid for this new date - if the new date doesn’t work for you there are limited tickets available for Friday 30th March. Contact point of purchase for exchange of date or refund.

Brian Kennedy live in The Punchbowl, Booterstown tonight has been postponed.

At the Gaiety Theatre shows of Sive have been affected:

So, tickets for either Thursday show can be exchanged for a Sunday show, and if they are not exchanged, they will be refunded.

Over at the Abbey Theatre all performances of The Unmanageable Sisters have been cancelled for tonight and tomorrow night. You can email boxoffice@abbeytheatre.ie where the team will help you to change your booking.

At the Gate Theatre, today's performances of Look Back in Anger has been cancelled but Friday is still going ahead.  The Box Office will be in touch to rearrange bookings for cancelled performances.  For more information contact boxoffice@gate-theatre.ie.

All Odeon Cinemas nationwide are closed today due to the red weather warning, and until 3pm tomorrow, at which point they'll reassess the situation.  ODEON’s contact centre automatically refunds all tickets purchased online and when cinemas reopen, tickets that were purchased in the cinema will be refunded.

Also the Palas in Galway is closed, to reopen 6pm on Friday.

The Light House in Dublin is also closed today.

Ennis Book Club Festival issued this statement: "With deep regret the committee of Ennis Book Club Festival have decided to cancel the events on Friday 02nd March and the events of Saturday morning 03rd March until 1pm. We have taken advice from the Clare County Council emergency team in regard to the safety of contributors, volunteers and the audience. Refunds will be made for cancelled events. A decision for the remaining events will be made in due course."
