They don't know it yet but they'll have a comeback - Louis Walsh predicts Westlife return
Lous Walsh has predicted a comeback for Westlife, although he admits the four former members "don't know it yet".
The band split up in 2012 after 14 years which had seen them bag 14 number one singles and 44 million album sales.
Each has pursued their own path with Nicky Byrne fronting his own radio show with Jenny Green on 2Fm, Kian Egan presenting The Voice of Ireland, and Shane Filan and Markus Feehily both launching solo singing careers.
However, speaking to Pat Kenny in the penultimate episode of Pat Kenny in the Round, Louis says, “They were a brilliant band to work with and who knows, maybe in a few years they’ll be back. I would love that.”
When asked will they would make a comeback, he replies: “Of course. They don’t know it yet, but yeah, of course.”
Louis' comments are included in the main interview with former Westlifer Shane Filan, who chats about his bankruptcy, family, and the band's global success.
Reacting to Louis' comments, Shane doesn't rule out a reunion.
“I think Louis was the most devastated fan when it all happened," he says. "You know Pat, it’s a question we get asked a lot and it’s something that could happen, but it’s four or five people that have to make that decision, so it depends where we all are individually in our own lives at that stage. But yeah, it could happen of course.”
Just last month, however, Kian Egan said there wasn't "a chicken's chance in Thailand" of the band reforming anytime soon.
Speaking on Today FM, The Voice of Ireland presenter said, “Right now, it’s all about living without Westlife”.
According to Kian (35), he doesn't see much of Mark, Nicky, or Shane these days.
“We haven’t seen an awful lot of each other since the end of the band, but we’re all still kind of friendly, and in contact with each other. Everybody is just doing their own thing”.
However, Kian didn’t totally disregard the notion of a reunion in the future, adding “whether we’ll visit it at another time in life, further down the road, I don’t know”.
Pat Kenny in the Round with Shane Filan broadcasts on UTV Ireland on Monday June 1 at 9pm
