U2 star The Edge has admitted that his own ‘stupidity’ led to him falling off stage last month – but that he was lucky not to have broken his back.

The musician stumbled off stage on the first night of the band’s latest world tour in Canada last month.

However he has said that the accident could have been much worse – he landed just feet away from a film dolly.

“I was so lucky. I was really lucky. To be honest it happened so fast I didn’t have time to think”, he said.

“Luckily enough I didn’t hit anything. There’s a film dolly track with upright supports, if I’d landed on one of those I would have broken my back.”

The 53-year-old  admitted he was counting his blessings that the accident didn’t seriously harm him.

“It was down to the stupidity of not paying attention. It was the first night on the stage, a new stage. I should have been extra careful.”

The band continue their world tour throughout the summer – however no Irish dates have yet been announced.

There has been speculation the band could announce dates at Dublin’s Three Arena, however Bono has confirmed this would not be as part of the current tour, as the stage won’t fit.
