Somebody really, really wanted Kurt Cobain’s MTV Unplugged cardigan

Kurt Cobain's oatmeal coloured cardi from Nirvana's session for MTV: Unplugged has sold for a whopping £140,800 (€130,000) at auction.

The cardi, a "blend of acrylic, mohair and Lycra which sports a missing button as well as a "burn hole and discolouration" is probably one of the most famous cardis in rock.

It bagged $60,000 more than expected from an unnamed bidder.

The item was one of several on sale from auction house Julien's on Sunday. 

John Lennon's acoustic guitar fetched more than $2.4m (€2.2m) while a drum head used by Ringo Starr on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, meanwhile, earned a whopping $2,050,000.

An Elvis jacket worn on stage in 1972 bagged $59,375 and his gold leaf grand piano went for $610,000.

Also, the jacket that Michael Jackson wore to Elizabeth Taylor's wedding made $24,320 while his Dangerous tour jacket fetched $25,600.

Joni Mitchell;'s stage played guitar went for $28,800.
