Mel C bans daughter from watching 'overtly sexual' Rihanna videos
Former Spice Girl Mel C has said she has banned her daughter Scarlett from watching Rihanna videos.
Speaking to the Radio Times, she said female artists should have "more dignity" and stop flaunting their flesh and using explicit content in their videos and on stage.
Her comments follow recent backlash against artists like Nicki Minaj, who features explicit content in her 'Anaconda' video as well as Jennifer Lopez and Iggy Azaelea who were criticised for their recent 'Booty' video.
“My five-year-old loves Rihanna. But she has no idea what her idol looks like because there’s little footage that I’m happy for her to see. It’s a shame that a talented, successful woman expresses herself in such an overtly sexual way,” said Mel C.
However, she said the problem was not about one female singer and that a bigger conversation was needed.
“It’s vulgar and narcissistic and I worry about how it affects girls,” she added.
The Spice Girls hit the big time in the 1990s championing the idea of "girl power" but Mel C said they weren't interested in "pleasing men".
