Janet Jackson has announced she is delaying her Unbreakable tour because she and her husband are "planning their family".

The 49-year-old singer - who married businessman Wissam Al Mana in 2012 - posted a video on her Twitter account to announce the news.

Jackson did not say that she was pregnant but said there had been a "sudden change" to the second leg of her tour, which started in August 2015.

She said she has to "rest up", explaining that it was "doctor's orders".

In the one-minute, 46-second video clip, Jackson asked her fans to understand that it is important she "does this now" and thanked them for their love and loyalty.

She went on to thank her dancers, her band and her crew. She said she could not wait to get started on tour again.

In December last year, Jackson announced she was postponing her Unbreakable tour until the spring to have an unspecified surgical procedure.

At that time, Jackson's statement asked for prayers of support and said no further details on her medical condition would be disclosed.

Following the announcement of the postponement of dates, many fans were left worrying about her health, as the singer underwent throat surgery in January. But a new report claims poor ticket sales were to blame for the date cancellations.

“She was about to flop, badly," a source told the New York Post's Page Six gossip column. "When an artist cancels an entire leg or postpones pieces of the tour, the real reason is because they’re not selling. It’s better to cancel than play a room that’s half-filled, especially if you’re Janet Jackson.”

However, an insider at Live Nation, the producers of Jackson's tour, denied the claims and said the ticket sales had been "decent" although not amazing.

"We were a month out and still very positive about the shows, but it didn’t make any sense to keep all the dates," the source said. "She’s very ambitious right now. And when you’re that ambitious, there becomes conflict.

"She has other businesses - some music, some brand-related. Janet has a complicated life. Her schedule was getting crazy, so we decided to pull this thing down... It may be moved to a later date."
