Rumours abound that Bono and U2 are heading to Apple in Cork for a surprise appearance today.

The US tech giant today announced it will create up to 1,000 new jobs at its Hollyhill, Cork location as part of another major expansion of their Irish operation.

Apple chief executive Tim Cook is in Ireland for the announcement and he is also set to receive an honorary doctorate from Trinity College.

U2 are rumoured to be joining Cook this afternoon in Cork.  It's not beyond the realms of possibility given Bono and the boys' previous collaborations including the release of their most recent album, Innocence + Experience, for free on iTunes.

Fans have been taking to Twitter to comment on the rumours.
