'I wasn't feeling it initially' - How the Grammys got Annie Lennox to duet with Hozier
Legendary singer Annie Lennox said she had to be convinced to perform with Irish singer Hozier.
The rising star from Bray, whose song Take Me To Church is nominated for Song of the Year will take to the stage with the Scottish icon tonight
But Lennox said she had to be convinced at first to perform with him.
I wasn't quite seeing it, initially," she told USA Today. "I said, when we get into a room together, we're going to know if it works."
"I think he was a little nervous, to be honest with you. I'm always a little bemused by that, because I'm really not anybody to be afraid of."
It was after that first practice at the Staples Center, she said she knew there was a special connection and agreed to the much talked about performance.
While the song list is being kept under lock and key, Lennox did divulge, "Gospel and blues is the basis of both those songs. That's the interface."
And she praised the up and comer, who was undoubtedly music's most talked about star of 2014, for his dedication; in particular, the impact Take Me To Church had.
"[He's] such a grounded guy — he's quite wise for his years," she added,
"Sweet Dreams was something like that, so I do know something about that and I do know about how it can last your whole life."
