Lionel Richie has confirmed he will collaborate on a project with British singer Adele.

The 66-year-old 'Dancing on the Ceiling' star revealed to E! News that he will work with Adele once she has finished promoting her hit new album, 25.

“We are going to be doing something together - that’s already almost in the works,” he said.

“I can almost say that we’re talking but right now she has a mission. Her mission is to get her record out and go on tour, so until she finishes that cycle, that won’t happen just yet. She is committed to that.”

Once Adele's new single, 'Hello' landed last month, fans were quick to point out the similarity between the song's opening and that of Lionel Richie's 1984 hit of the same name.

A mash-up video with both stars talking to each other via their own songs was created and Richie posted a screenshot of the video to Instagram with the caption, "Hello Adele, is it me you're looking for?".

Richie at first thought Adele has covered his song.

“What it did was it blew everything to the ceiling," he said. The conversation came up. If you say Adele and you say Lionel or Lionel and Adele…that’s the best pairing you could have!”

Some people are really surprised Adele's 'Hello' isn't a cover of Lionel Richie's 'Hello'
