Family trad band hits new heights after 10-year-old's bodhrán solo goes viral

A 10-year-old who previously wowed audiences around the world with a solo bodhrán piece has released a video of his family's latest performance.

Séan Maguire (10) plays the bodhrán in the Maguire band along with his two sisters Emma (16) and Aoife (14) and his father, Philip.

The Maguires are a four piece family trad band from Wicklow and they all started playing traditional Irish music at a young age.

Their latest video, which was recorded at their album launch at Temple Bar Tradfest in January, has received over 200,000 views on their Facebook page.

The band, who provided the soundtrack for Tourism Ireland's promotional content, also played live on The Ray D'Arcy Show last year.

They are currently gigging nationwide, having covered 18 counties so far, and played their international debut in Amsterdam in January.

“We love all musical genres, but traditional Irish music comes first," proud dad Philip said.

"This is a video we recorded at our album launch at Temple Bar Tradfest in January and it's had over 200k views on our Facebook page."
