Extra Irish dates added for Ed Sheeran 2018 sold out tour
Two extra Irish dates have been added to Ed Sheeran's Irish tour next year.
Last weekend over 300,000 tickets for his seven original dates sold out marking the biggest ever number of tickets sold by an artist in Ireland in one day.
Now a third and final date has been added for Cork's Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday May 6, 2018 and a third and final date has been added for Dublin's Phoenix Park on Saturday May 19, 2018.
Tickets go on sale on Saturday July 15 at 9am.
Ed is already slated to play Dublin, Cork, Galway, and Belfast, kicking off at Pairc Ui Caoimh in Cork on May 4 2018, with a second date at the venue on May 5. He will then play Boucher Road Playing Fields, in Belfast on May 9 before Galway's Pearse Stadium on Saturday May 12 and Sunday May 13. His Dublin dates will see him play the Phoenix Park on Wednesday May 16 and Friday May 18.
"By choosing to bring his incredible new show around Ireland, Ed has created unbelievable excitement all over the country," a statement from Aiken Promotions said following Saturday's ticket sales.
"His fans have embraced this with wide open arms, buying tickets in unprecedented numbers and in doing so, have helped to create a little bit of history here in Ireland."
Aiken also thanked Ticketmaster outlets who were able to, "in a correct and safe manner, look after all the queues around the country".
Some fans were frustrated by long waiting times as they tried to buy tickets from Ticketmaster online. Organisers asked fans to be patient as there was a very high volume of demand.
"Tickets for Ed Sheeran’s 2018 Irish Tour went on sale at 9am this morning from Ticketmaster," an earlier statement read.
"Please bear with us as there are lots of people at outlets and lots of people online purchasing tickets and Ticketmaster are getting through everything as quickly as possible. "
