Tickets for both Ed Sheeran's Croke Park dates on Friday July 24 and Saturday July 25 have sold out.

The pre-sale for the red-haired singer's Friday 24th July gig had sole out by Wednesday this week, prompting concert promoters Aiken Promotions to add a second date.

The rush for tickets for both dates created a backlog on Ticketmaster.ie from 9am this morning and many fans found themselves with waiting times of 15 minutes or more.

Tickets were sold out online within the hour.

Other fans camped out overnight and long queues formed outside Ticketmaster outlets.

Sheeran, who won Best British Male and Best British Album had originally intended to end his tour at Wembley Stadium but the chance to play Croker proved too enticing to turn down.

The chart-topping musician will bring the curtain down on his 2015 stadium tour with the two finale gigs in Croker.

"I've never been to Croke Park before but I've heard the most amazing things about it," he told Ryan Tubridy when he announced the first date.

"They don't do many concerts there so I never expected to play there."

Sheeran decided to add a further date to his stadium tour following the success of his VH1 Storytellers gig in Whelans last month.

"I enjoyed Dublin enough to extend a tour I [previously] said I would never extend," he said.

"I always love coming back to Ireland. Irish audiences are among the best in the world."
