Ed Sheeran has revealed his budding friendship with Jedward all started with a bizarre encounter in Canada.

The Grammy-winning singer (26) opened up about the first time he met the Irish duo while they both happened to be in Toronto and he called out to them when he realised who they were.

"So I shouted out to them, 'Jedward' and took them in my car and we went to my hotel," he told the Irish Sun.

"Then they just started being Jedward and buying Justin Timberlake vinyls on eBay, like loads of them at once."

The Lucan twins (25) claimed to the same paper last month they had become "good friends" with the superstar singer and they're working on an EDM collaboration - a concept which Sheeran actually seemed up for.

"If an EDM collab would happen with anyone it would happen with Jedward," he added.

"I love Jedward, it's like a puppy, there is no way you can dislike Jedward."

Sheeran is currently promoting his new album Divide where he displayed his well documented affection for Ireland including a track entitled Galway Girl.

With mentions of Grafton Street, Carrickfergus, fiddles, céilis, an Irish band and trad tunes, there's no denying just how much the pop star loves our fair isle.
