Coronas frontman Danny O'Reilly has revealed how he briefly had to sing solo at a festival after they almost missed their slot.

The band played the V Festival in England over the weekend, but almost didn't make it when their ferry from Belfast was delayed.

Frontman Danny had to sing solo as the band set up the equipment.

"We were on our tour bus from Belsonic, where we played on Friday night in Belfast, and we arrived 10 minutes before the set because the ferry was delayed," he said.

However, Danny's impromptu acoustic set worked thanks to the chilled-out atmosphere.

"We only just made it and I just went up and did a few acoustic songs. I didn't have any time to set up any of the gear at all," he told 2fm. "I never do solo stuff, ever, but it actually went really well. It was nice, everyone was sitting down on the grass and it sort of suited it better."

The 29-year-old has also revealed the band are set to headline this year's New Year's Eve Festival at College Green in Dublin.

"I think we're doing New Year's Eve in Dublin. It hasn't been announced yet.

"It'll be televised on New Year's Eve, I'm pretty sure, so that'll be the next Dublin show," he said.

Meanwhile, Danny, who is Mary Black's son, will be hosting a night of music in Studio 8 for In Session on RTE Radio 1 on Sunday at 11.10pm.

He will be joined by Dublin duo Hudson Taylor, his sister Roisin O (inset), Mick Flannery and The Coronas for an evening of music and chat.
