Damien Rice fans who were disappointed to miss out on tickets for his November 3 show (which sold out in a record 2 mins) can catch the singer/songwriter on 'Later... with Jools Holland' tonight.
It will be his only European TV appearance and he'll perform tracks from his highly anticipated new album 'My Favourite Faded Fantasy' which releases on October 31.
It has been eight years since Rice released his second album, 9, which followed his massively successful debut, O.
The title track of My Fvourite Faded Fantasy premiered on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show and he teased the intro with a brief video clip but the full track is here: https://soundcloud.com/damienrice
Tune in tonight to BBC 2 at 10pm on Sky TV or 11.50pm on UPC and see his full performance on Friday at 11.35pm.
It builds and builds, like a storm front approaching from the sea. There is some guitar - barely enough to register at first - and a voice, low, a little lost. Slowly, inevitably, the volume rises and then, boom, the song opens up, the roof comes off, a hurricane makes landfall.
With his scraggly hair and mopey demeanour, you could at first glance mistake Andrew Hozier Byrne for just another busker off to terrify Temple Bar tourists with his repertoire of Pogues and REM dirges.
