Mairead adds another string to bow
YOUNG violinist Mairead Hickey added another string to her bow yesterday.
The 14-year-old from Cork, won the National Concert Hall's Young Musician's Award 2011.
With a cash prize fund of €10,000, this award supports the development of talented young musicians in Ireland.
For the first time, this year's competition was open to classical string players of violin, viola, cello or double bass.
The cash may be used towards tuition, instruments, travel or other costs faced by student musicians.
Mairead intends to use her prize money to buy a bow and attend master-classes in Romania and France.
