ACTOR Aidan Gillen and writer Roddy Doyle will join 15 acts to pay tribute to The Pogues' guitarist Philip Chevron next month.

A benefit concert will take place for the musician, who is suffering from inoperable cancer, in Dublin's Olympia Theatre on August 24.

'Love/Hate' star Gillen will take to the stage to contribute with a poetry reading. Acts to entertain the crowds include Horslips, Gavin Friday, Paul Brady and Declan O'Rourke.

Shane MacGowan will also perform and a source told the Irish Independent that Chevron hoped to join the musicians.

The 55-year-old, whose real name is Philip Ryan, is suffering from a recurrence of head and neck cancer, after doctors discovered a tumour in 2012.
