Love split helped Ora with music
Rita Ora has revealed that her break-up with Calvin Harris gave her a new perspective on her music.
The Black Widow singer admitted that the split with the Scottish DJ in June 2014, after a year-long relationship, made her realise she wasn't being true to herself for her upcoming second album.
"I had a break-up, or whatever, and it really made me realise what I was trying to do. I had been fixated on this love fantasy, but really it wasn't like that, and I had to take myself back," the 24-year-old told Nylon.
"For me, this was my moment where I had to be real and tell the truth and be honest. I love my pop songs, and I'm still gonna be pop, but this has just got a lot more depth to it."
Rita, who will perform at the Oscars on February 22, revealed that the follow-up to her 2012 debut album, Ora, will also be darker and sexier.
"It's like, 'Yeah, I grew up and I looked at my a**e, and it got a bit bigger and I'm sexier now.' Might as well flaunt it!" she explained.
The Voice coach added: "I feel more womanly. I wanted the album to be dark and sexy, but still approachable, because I'm not a dark person."
