Jennifer Lopez has said she would change nothing about her chequered love life because "it's made me who I am".

The singer, 44, split from third husband Marc Anthony in 2011 and admitted that she "went through a tremendous low".

But she told People magazine: "I wouldn't change anything [about my past] because it made me who I am."

The American Idol judge, who is in a relationship with backing dancer Casper Smart, 27, added: "As women we can sometimes give ourselves away. I was certainly guilty of that for some time.

"Now I realise I am good on my own, so now I can share my life with somebody."

J-Lo, who has six-year-old twins Emme and Max with Marc, said: "I just feel like I went through a real growth spurt as a human being [when I became a mother].

"Having my babies allowed me to realise what real unconditional love was."

The star releases her 10th studio album A.K.A. on June 17.
