Loose and free at festival

After a series of sold-out gigs across the land, Republic of Loose are spreading the funk for free at this year's Indie-pendence Festival. They will headline Friday at the event which takes place at New Square, Mitchelstown from August 3-6.

Cork's finest Sultans Of Ping will headline on Saturday and Director, currently on the road in support of new single Be With You, will headline on Sunday. The festival also features performances from Delorentos, The Aftermath, The Chapters and Miss Motif, among others.

Monday, August 6, is World Music Day, and as such features Niwell Tsumbu, Poles Apart, Nigerian drums and Brazilian samba.

Meanwhile it has been announced that '70s legends Sister Sledge and a host of homegrown talent are to play the Castlepalooza extravaganza at Charleville Castle in Tullamore on the same weekend. And music lovers should also keep an ear out for Joe Chester's stunning new offering, The Tiny Pieces Left Behind.
