Little Mix have revealed they will be going for a more mature sound on their second album.

The X Factor winners are currently working on the follow up to their 2012 debut DNA and told MTV what they were going for this time.

Jade Thirlwall said: "We're so proud of [the] DNA album. We don't want to let it go, but we've had a bit of fun. We've only literally just started writing and stuff. I think we probably might mature slightly for this album, but we want to keep the kind of uplifting message we had on the last one. Why am I saying last one? It's still out. Isn't that weird?"

DNA reached number three in the UK album charts and four in the US, as well as going top 10 in Canada, Australia, Italy, Norway, Sweden and the Czech Republic.

The group have been tweeting about their progress on the new album, saying: "Agghhhhh sooo excited about the song we're writing today :D getting goosebumps!"

"Come up with a chorus for the song we were very excited about yesterday :D time to write a middle 8!"

Meanwhile band member Perrie Edwards has been talking about the fact that she has no sense of smell. The singer told Radio 1's Newsbeat that she'd suffered from the condition since birth.

Perrie, who is in a relationship One Direction heartthrob Zayn Malik, said: "I have never smelt anything, but I think I smelt coffee once. When people go, ah she's cooking a Sunday roast, I'm like, how do you know that. I'm like, this is amazing, it's like magic."

The 20-year-old is thought to have the rare medical condition congenital anosmia.

The star, who is set to join her Little Mix bandmates at the Wireless festival in London this weekend, added: "People are always like, 'Oh, isn't that really horrible?' and I'm like, 'No', because I've never known what it's like to smell. If I'd had it and then it disappeared I'd be like, 'Argh'."
