Lily Allen reveals Crystal Swing getting stuck in bathroom delayed her concert by hours
Cork country band Crystal Swing delayed British singer Lily Allen’s concert by nearly two hours before a performance because they were locked in the bathroom.
The British singer revealed today that the Cork trio kept her waiting backstage for nearly two hours before their joint performance at the Flatlake Festival in 2010.
Mum Mary Murray-Burke and her teenage children, Derek Burke and Dervla Burke, were the British singer’s band for the annual Monaghan festival.
“It’s my uncle’s festival and he got me there under the guise of ‘you have to come here and support the family’,” Lily told The Nicky Byrne Show on 2FM.
“When I got there, I realised he had put me on the flyer as headlining the festival.
“I was like, ‘but I haven’t got a band’, and he said I did.
“That’s when I met Crystal Swing,” she said.
Lily said she was waiting to go on stage as the family band were reportedly locked in the bathroom.
“Crystal Swing kept me waiting for an hour and a half,” she laughed.
“Apparently, they got locked into the bathroom and were trying to get out.”
But Lily Allen, who is set to release her latest album ‘Sheezus’ in Ireland on May 2, said there are no hard feelings.
“I loved them, I thought they were hilarious,” she said.
Lily, whose husband is Irish, said the name of her new album is ‘a kind of a homage’ to Kanye West.
“I love and adore Kanye,” she said.
“He’s one of those few people who puts himself on the line in terms of speaking his mind and not compromising himself and doing things on his own terms. He called his last album ‘Yeezus’ so I thought I would sure like mine to be called ‘Sheezus’.”
