Kiefer Sutherland has visited a children’s hospice to surprise kids and staff with a private gig.

Naomi House And Jacksplace in Hampshire had sent an invitation to the 24 actor via social media to pop in for “some tea, cake and a jam” while he was in the area to play at a nearby music festival.

And the UK-born Hollywood star took them up on the offer on Sunday as he dropped by to perform for the youngsters at the hospices and their families, as well as nurses and carers.

Keith Wilson, head of marketing at the charity, said: “When we recorded the video message for Kiefer we hoped he might see it, but thought it pretty unlikely. He is about as busy as a man can be at the moment.

“To wake up to a Twitter message from him saying he really wanted to come along was just incredible.”

Sutherland, also known for his roles in Stand By Me and Designated Survivor, played a number of songs with his band before having a cup of tea and some cake, and talking to children and their families.

“He was so very generous with his time, great with the kids and a genuinely lovely man,” Mr Wilson said. “Needless to say, he is welcome back anytime and we certainly plan to keep in touch.”

Naomi House And Jacksplace hospices in Winchester care for more than 400 children and young people with life-limiting conditions.

Sutherland, who released his second album earlier this year, paid a visit in between a show in Bournemouth the previous night and a set at Wickham Festival later on Sunday evening.
