Keane: We're just taking a break

Keane frontman Tom Chaplin has said there are a "complicated set of reasons" behind the band's decision to take a break - and that they're not splitting up.

The British four-piece, whose hits include Somewhere Only We Know, will not be recording together "for the foreseeable future".

"That, unfortunately, is the story now - that we're splitting up, and it has gathered its own momentum," Tom said.

"We are taking some time away, but it's not the same as splitting up. I don't think so, anyway.

"We've worked hard towards getting to this point, so naturally we want to take a bit of a break.

"And what's the point of being in a band as big as Keane if it doesn't afford you the luxury of a bit of time off?"

Asked whether it was bandmates Tim Rice-Oxley, Richard Hughes or himself who suggested the break, he said: "It's complicated, and a complicated set of reasons. I haven't thought about why."

Tom, who is planning a solo record and is set to become a father next year, added: "Being in a band is such an irregular life, and I don't think anything is well planned."
