Kavana, the former heartthrob and I Can Make You Feel Good singer, has revealed that he is gay.
The singer, real name Anthony Kavanagh, who is currently appearing on TV show The Big Reunion, opened up in an interview for Now magazine.
"Part of me is almost embarrassed that it's taken me this long to publicly say I'm gay," Mail Online said he told the magazine.
"Here I am, aged 36, coming out - what am I doing? I've never come out publicly because no one's ever asked. It's become this huge elephant in the room," he said.
Kavana said that he didn't tell his father about his sexuality before he died four years ago, and will not tell his mother because she suffers from Alzheimer's Disease.
Asked if he regretted having not told his father, he said: "Yes, But I think he knew.
"He used to say, 'As long as you're happy, just be yourself' and 'It wouldn't matter to me if my son was gay'."
He told the magazine: "I do find women attractive, but I've had more intimate relationships with guys. If I change my mind one day, so be it - but right now I'm gay."
The singer has formed a supergroup, 5th Story, with Gareth Gates, Dane Bowers, Adam Rickitt and Blazin' Squad's Kenzie for the ITV2 show and said that he only later opened up to his new bandmates about his sexuality.
"When we first me, they asked me, 'Have you got a girlfriend?' I just went, 'No'.
"It felt weird so two weeks later I sent them all an email saying, 'Dear guys, there hasn't been a right moment to tell you but... I'm gay'.
"They said it didn't matter so I said, 'Cool, well I don't fancy any of you lot anyway, so don't worry!'."
