Katie Derham will be keeping an eye out for potential knicker-throwers as she hosts the Proms.

During 2015's Last Night Of The Proms, tenor Jonas Kaufmann was pelted with women's underwear as the crowd showed their appreciation.

Derham, 46, told the Daily Express Saturday magazine: "I never thought I'd see the day when I'd commentate on the Last Night and see the star have knickers thrown at him."

She admitted that she could see the attraction.

"Jonas is very handsome," she said.

"I saw him in Don Carlo at the Royal Opera House with my mother-in-law, Marian, a few years ago. We sat right next to the stage and, seeing him up close, we were like a couple of giddy teenagers!"

This year's Last Night on September 10 will feature Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Florez, so Derham will be keeping her eyes peeled for any signs of bad behaviour.

She said: "Juan Diego is a beautiful singer and very dashing. I'll have to see if I can spot any likely knicker-throwing suspects in the front row."

Derham is now in her seventh year as main host of the Proms, which will take place over the next two months.

Having reached the final of last year's Strictly Come Dancing alongside partner Anton Du Beke, Derham has agreed to take part in a special Strictly Prom.

Accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra, she will put aside her hosting duties and take to the dance floor. Other Strictly favourites scheduled to perform include Janette Manrara, Giovanni Pernice and Kevin Clifton.

However, with Du Beke unable to attend, Strictly professional dancer Aljaz Skorjanec has had to step in.

Derham said: "He's absolutely lovely, Aljaz, but it'll be a bit strange as I've only danced with Anton before.

"We had our first practice a couple of weeks ago and I'm just trying to remember which foot goes where."
