Kate marks 20 years in folk with Dublin gig
HOW many folk singers does it take to change a light bulb? One to change it and five to sing about how good the old one was.
For quite a while folk musicians were (unfairly, the Pleasure List argues) the butt of every music joke going. Luckily for the folk music scene, two things happened.
Firstly, we saw the rise of the X Factor and now have reality TV singers to lambaste for their cringing sincerity.
Secondly, English folk musician Kate Rusby has been putting the "Folk Yeah!" back in folk with her stunning vocals and mesmerising re-interpretations of traditional songs, as well as her own original music.
To celebrate her 20 years in music, Rusby has recorded the album 20 together with her own band (including husband Damien O'Kane) and many of the great and good of the international folk scene.
The National Concert Hall, Dublin, will host Rusby and her band for an unmissable evening of folk on Saturday, May 3, at 7.30pm.
