Jay-Z is the hip-hop king - for the second year running.

The 10-time Grammy award-winning music mogul - who boasted to his fellow rappers in his track Oh My God: 'What you call money, I pay more in taxes' - topped the list by Forbes.com, beating out rivals P Diddy and Akon, who took second and third spots respectively.

Jay-Z - whose real name is Shawn Carter - banked around 63 million dollars in the past 12 months from his music, business ventures and endorsements, with earnings which make P Diddy's (Sean Combs) 30 million dollars seem like pocket money.

Yet his earnings seem paltry compared to wife Beyonce's 87 million US dollars.

Despite being behind bars, Dwayne 'Lil Wayne' Carter - who is serving time in prison - pocketed around 20 million dollars, putting him in fourth place, and Andre 'Dr Dre' Young bagged 17 million, taking the fifth spot.

"Jay-Z is in a league of his own right now. There are very few artists of any genre, not just hip-hop, who've created such brands for themselves," said Ryan Schinman, chief of Platinum Rye, the US's largest buyer of music and talent for corporations.

Other hip-hop stars who made the top 10 included Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, Timbaland, Pharrell Williams and Kanye West.
