There were just three new entries in the singles chart, with the top spot going to a singer who writes tunes in the dark.
The debut single by Iyaz, Replay, went in at No 1, seeing off competition from another new entry, the catchy Riverside (Let's Go) by Sidney Samson, which was at two.
Starstrukk by 3OH3 featuring Katy Perry, who is engaged to comedian Russell Brand, was at three.
The shine appeared to be wearing off the first release by The X Factor winner Joe McElderry as The Climb fell to 15 from No 2 last week.
But fellow champion from the reality TV series Alexandra Burke saw her latest effort Broken Heels rise seven places to No 12.
The remaining new entry in the chart was at 32 - Where We Belong by Welsh rockers Lost Prophets.
In the album chart, Sunny Side Up by Paolo Nutini remained in the top spot, followed by Florence And The Machine's Lungs which rose four places to No 2.
A collection of hits to mark what would have been Elvis's 75th birthday went from 135 to eight.
Iyaz revealed his unusual writing habit to the Daily Star newspaper last week. He said: "I will sit in the dark and write songs, just me and my phone, writing. Everyone has their own little creative way of expressing themselves, to do whatever they do."
