Irish academy student triumphs
Soo-Jung Ann, a piano student of the Royal Irish Academy of Music, brought honour to Ireland last weekend by winning the prestigious International Telekom Beethoven Competition.
The Korean pianist has been a student of John O'Conor and Therese Fahy at the Royal Irish Academy of Music since 2007 and was one of three finalists vying for the coveted first prize title -- a prize of €30,000 and significant performance engagements worldwide.
She carried off the prize with her outstanding performance of Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto in Bonn, the city of Beethoven's birth.
Soo-Jung Ann has previously won prizes at the Dublin International Piano Competition, at competitions in Japan and Hong Kong and in 2012 won first prize at the Maria Canals Competition in Barcelona. Naurally, her mentors O'Conor and Fahy are thrilled.
