Hot Chip's Joe Goddard has revealed his unhappiness with the direction of today's pop music.

The co-founder of the electro band, who have released their fourth album One Life Stand, prefers the pop songs of the 70s and 80s.

"I don't find the sound of pop music very pleasant any more - everything is so incredibly bright and over-compressed that some of the life is squashed out of pop music," he told the Independent.

"I find the songwriting dull in a lot of new pop music. I used to be in love with more pop music than I am now. I'm in love with the way records used to sound in the 70s and 80s."

Joe reckons the scene could be livened up by Hot Chip's music.

"I miss the fact that there could be something at No 1 that is really bizarre-sounding. There's a real renaissance in bizarre club music, but none of that forward-thinking is going into pop music at the moment," he said.
