'Hey Steo' - Ronan Keating shares 'hero' tribute to Stephen Gately on the anniversary of his death
Ronan Keating has paid tribute to former bandmate Stephen Gately on the seventh anniversary of his death.
The hugely popular Boyzone singer died in Majorca on October 10 aged 33, from an undetected heart condition.
To mark his anniversary on Monday, his friend and former bandmate, Ronan Keating, took to Instagram to share a photo of Stephen and accompanied it with a touching caption.
"Hey Steo. 'A true hero isn't measured by the size of his strength but by the strength of his heart.' - Zeus (Disney's Hercules) #ShootingStar. Miss ya Bro," - a nod to Gately's single, Shooting Star, the 1997 theme tune from Disney's Hercules.
The Dublin singer, who had previously worked as a barman, joined Boyzone in 1993 after answering an advert in Dublin to audition for Ireland's first boyband.
The five-piece band enjoyed six number one singles before splitting up in 2000.
Elton John described Gately as "the kindest, gentlest soul" and Louis Walsh, the band's manager, said he was "a great man".
Shortly after Stephen's death in 2009, all four band members got tattoos bearing the letter S and the numbers 76 09, the year of his birth and death.
