Halle and Chaka Khan for BET honour

Halle Berry and Chaka Khan have been announced among the nominees for the 2013 BET Honours.

BET Honours highlights African Americans performing at top levels in the areas of music, literature, entertainment, education and more.

As well as the Oscar-winning actress and the doyenne of jazz funk, it was revealed basketball star Lisa Leslie, music executive Clarence Avant and religious leader T.D. Jakes will also be celebrated at the ceremony on January 12 2013 at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C.

The special show, hosted by actress Gabrielle Union, will air on February 11.

Maya Angelou was among the honourees at this year's BET Honours. First Lady Michelle Obama presented her award.

Performers will be announced at a later date.
