Golden couple take the centre stage at Oxegen music festival

OSCAR winners Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova have been propelled to the top of the Oxegen line-up, the Evening Herald can reveal.

The pair who are the talk of Hollywood were today added to the summer’s biggest festival.

In what will be one of the highlights of the three-day event, the duo are sure to perform their Academy Award winning song Falling Slowly and other songs from the movie Once.

They will perform on the Sunday night of the festival, which runs from July 11 to 13. We can also reveal today the order of performances for the three nights.


The official launch of the festival was held yesterday at Bruxelles in Dublin.

Other not-to-be missed sets include ones from The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers and Editors.

The Swell Season featuring Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova will be headlining the Pet Sounds Stage on Sunday night.

They both won an Oscar for Best Original Song for Falling Slowly from the hit film Once. Dubliner Glen and Czechborn Marketa previously worked together on the album The Swell Season.

Glen has been one of the leading names on the Irish music scene for years as lead singer with The Frames.

Festival goers won’t know what to expect when Amy Winehouse takes the stage on Saturday.

She has become a genuine global superstar since her album Back To Black achieved have had critics fawning over her, while the singer’s complicated private life has just added to her fame.

She recently picked up a record five awards at last month’s Grammys including best album and best song for Rehab.

Led by Shane MacGowan, the Meteors in 2006. At last year’s Oxegen they performed classics like Dirty Old Town, Rainy Night in Soho and The Irish Rover to the Punchestown masses.

The Charlatans emerging in the early 1990s with hits such as The Only One I Know, One to Another and You’re So Pretty. As rushes at a funfair, complete with giant ferris wheel, rollercoasters and dodgems.

Also entertaining the crowds will be the circus performers who will juggle, hula-hoop and walk on stilts around the site throughout the weekend.

Also returning to the festival is the Bacardi B-Live arena.
