Liam Gallagher has beaten stars like Bono, Freddie Mercury and John Lennon to be named the greatest frontman of all time.

The cocky former Oasis star, who has never been shy to brag about his brilliance, tops a list of greats compiled by thousands of readers of Q magazine.

In an interview with Q, Liam compared himself to Elvis Presley, saying "there is Elvis and me, I couldn't say which of the two is best".

And in an uncharacteristic show of brotherly support, or possibly sarcasm, he reckoned brother Noel was his own personal choice of greatest frontman.

The top ten featured Bono second, followed by Queen star Freddie, Damon Albarn, Chris Martin, Matt Bellamy, Jim Morrison, Bob Marley, Paul McCartney and John Lennon.

Liam - who last month handed a special award into the crowd when he appeared at the Brits - is known for his charismatic performances, often sneering into his microphone with his hands behind his back, or messing with his tambourine.

Oasis split in August last year when Noel walked out on the band after years of squabbling with his brother.

Liam is planning to continue performing with the other members of the band.

The May edition of Q is on sale on March 27.
