Florence Welch has said she was glad to be given another chance to sing on Game Of Thrones after saying no during her “blurry years”.

The Florence + The Machine star performed the song Jenny Of Oldstones during the credits of the latest episode of the eighth and final series of the fantasy drama.

It came a few years after the group passed on the opportunity to sing on the HBO programme, which Welch said she could not recall.

Asked by the New York Times whether she regretted declining the first invitation, the singer said: “Did I? I can’t remember. I think that was during my quote-unquote wild years.

“If I’m being super honest, there are a lot of things that are a bit blurry. I wasn’t as … involved, or, shall we say, as focused as I am now.

“But even in the blurry years, when there was a lot of chaos, I was still pretty wary about what I said yes to. I tend to be pretty cautious about what songs I sing. So I’m glad that they came back to me.

“I feel really touched to be on the last season, to be the last singer. And I’m grateful that I get to be a bit more present for it, to celebrate the ending of Game Of Thrones in a clear place.”

Series showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have said in a statement that they are huge fans of Welch and the “opportunity to hear her otherworldly voice on our show was always at the forefront of our minds”.

Game Of Thrones continues on Sky Atlantic and Now TV.
