Red Hot Chili Peppers star Flea has denied reports he has formed a new supergroup.

The bassist was reported to have formed the outfit with former members of US rock band The Mars Volta.

The musician was said to have joined Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala's new project Antemasque after videos emerged online showing him joining in their rehearsals.

But Flea wrote on Twitter: "Woke to find out I'm in a new supergroup. Hahahaha. Played on some tracks a few weeks ago with my friends Omar and Cedric for love that all."

Flea has previously formed other supergroups including Damon Albarn's Rocket Juice And The Moon and Atoms For Peace with Radiohead's Thom Yorke.
