'Fantastic' Swift praised by Mayer
Taylor Swift was presented with a songwriting award by John Mayer, who described her as "fantastic".
The 20-year-old Grammy winner was given the Hal David Starlight Award, which pays tribute to young songwriters with promise, at the Songwriters Hall of Fame event.
John said: "You could put her in a time machine in any era and she would have a hit record. Don't confuse everybody loving one thing as hype. Sometimes that's everyone agreeing that it's fabulous."
Leonard Cohen was also honoured at the event, and received a standing ovation when he accepted an award for his song Hallelujah.
Quoting the song, he said: "I'll stand before the lord of song with nothing on my tongue but hallelujah."
Bridge Over Troubled Water was given the Towering Song Award, while Phil Collins, a previous inductee, was honoured with the Johnny Mercer Award.
