Dustin's TV company denies its turkey's goose is cooked
THE company behind Dustin the Turkey last night dispelled rumours that the popular character is to be dropped entirely by RTE bosses ahead of the autumn schedule.
And the Irish Independent understands that not only is Dustin to remain at RTE, but he could even broaden his appeal to include new, family programmes during prime Sunday evening slots on RTE One.
It had been feared that broadcast chiefs were about to remove Dustin from their programming -- and were preparing to drop him even before last week's Eurovision disaster.
But a spokesman for 'Double Z' enterprises, the company behind Dustin, said that he would be "gobsmacked" if Dustin was taken off the air.
And, although RTE refused to comment on plans, they said they were discussing a "development contract" as part of their "ongoing relationship" with Dustin and the man behind the beak, John Morrison.
"We will be continuing a relationship with him," a spokesperson said yesterday.
Dustin has been a fixture on RTE since 1990 when he appeared with fellow puppets Zig and Zag.
