Downton Abbey at Button Factory
You don't expect to see someone from Downton Abbey singing backing vocals with Snow Patrol.
But that's what happened in The Button Factory on Tuesday night when actress and singer Maria Doyle Kennedy joined Gary Lightbody and co for an acoustic show as part of this year's Meteor Choice Music Prize.
Speaking to me backstage after singing with Snow Patrol on the track 'Set the Fire to the Third Bar', Maria revealed to me that her recent on-screen death in Downton Abbey was final, and that she won't be coming back to haunt valet husband John Bates.
"I'm finished with Downton Abbey, but it was an amazing experience, most of all being able to work alongside Dame Maggie Smith, who was wonderful," Maria told me.
In recent weeks the mother-of-four has been shooting TV mini-series Titanic: Blood and Steel in which she plays down-to-earth lawyer's wife Muriel Batley.
After duetting with Gary Lightbody, Maria's new album Sing finds her sharing vocals with other big names including Damien Rice, US country music legend John Prine and Paul Brady.
She plays the Seamus Ennis Centre, Naul, Co Dublin, next Friday, November 11.
