Clodagh gets a real taste of the festival atmosphere
IT'S billed as the final party of the summer season, and tens of thousands took to the streets of Galway over the weekend for the 56th annual oyster festival.
Guest of honour, chef Clodagh McKenna, was on hand to oversee free tasting of the popular bivalve in pubs across the city, with ladies queuing up to be crowned the Oyster Pearl.
McKenna is pictured right enjoying the delicacies.
As is tradition, the city's mayor, Councillor Michael Crowe (FF), was presented with the season's first oyster.
Hundreds of competitors also took part in the Guinness World Oyster-opening championship, while revellers were treated to the annual Oyster Festival parade.
