Clapton: I'm looking at retiring

Eric Clapton has revealed he is considering retirement as he approaches 70.

The 69-year-old rocker, who will celebrate the milestone in March 2015, admitted travelling has become "unbearable" as he gets older, plus he doesn't want to embarrass himself on stage.

"When I turn 70 I'm unofficially retired. I think what I'll allow myself to do, within reason, is carry on recording in the studio, but the road has become unbearable," the award-winning guitarist told Uncut magazine.

"There are tons of things I'd like to do - but I'm looking at retirement, too. I'm 70 next year. I don't want to go off the boil to the point where I'm embarrassing myself."

Eric, who is behind hits like Tears In Heaven and Layla, admitted being on the road gets tougher as the years go on.

"It's unapproachable, because it takes so long to get anywhere - and it's hostile. Everywhere. Getting in and out of airports, getting on planes, travelling in cars," he said.

He also admitted playing heavy guitars for years has given him back problems and said he may have to give up playing his beloved instrument in years to come.

"Physically, it might be that I can't, if it hurts too much. I have odd ailments," he added.
