My Chemical Romance drummer Bob Bryar has quit the band.

Bob left the band a month ago in what bandmate Frank Iero said was "a painful decision".

The band posted an announcement on their official website to say Bob had left, but did not say why or who might replace him.

Guitarist Frank wrote: "As of four weeks ago, My Chemical Romance and Bob Bryar parted ways."

He continued: "This was a painful decision for all of us to make and was not taken lightly. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours, and expect you all to do the same."

Bob replaced original My Chemical Romance drummer Matt Pelissier in 2004.

The band are set to return with a new album later in 2010.

Frank wrote: "We have been writing some very powerful new songs so this week the four of us entered the studio once again, and what has been ending up on tape each night is some of the most exciting and honest work we have ever created."
