Boyband JLS make fan's birthday 'Outta This World'
A teenager who queued all night to catch a glimpse of her heroes was yesterday rewarded with the perfect 16th birthday present.
Chantelle Ward, from Pimlico in Dublin, was thrilled after her vigil resulted in an emotional meeting with chart-topping English boyband JLS.
The triple-platinum selling pop sensations, whose hits include 'Outta This World', visited Eason's bookstore in Dublin's O'Connell Street yesterday to sign copies of their new book ahead of two sell-out shows at the O2, the first of which took place last night.
JLS fever struck when members Aston Merrygold, JB Gill, Marvin Humes and Oritse Williams held a signing session for 'JLS Just Between Us: Our Private Diary'. "I absolutely love Ireland," singer Oritse said. "A huge thank you to all our fans and fanettes."
The event was due to start at 2pm and some fans had queued from 8pm the day before just to gain admission.
Around 500 of those were rewarded with special wristbands to meet the boyband. But at least 100 more devotees were not so fortunate and never got into the packed signing.
"We tried our best, but unfortunately we didn't have the capacity to have everyone come in and meet the band," an Eason spokeswoman said.
For many, it was too much. Most wept and one fan even fainted.
After coming second to singer Alexandra Burke in the fifth series of ITV talent show 'The X Factor' in 2008, JLS have become one of the UK's most popular acts.
