Bow Wow Wow singer Annabella Lwin says the British music industry is obsessed with age.
The Anglo-Burmese singer said she left the UK for Los Angeles after she was "basically told I was too old".
"I was about 30 and I made an album with Sony, which was never released in the end."
She said of her US home: "The sun is nice, but that's not what brought me here. I get more work as a singer-songwriter here."
Asked if the UK was age-obsessed, she said: "It certainly seems that way."
Bow Wow Wow, who were formed in 1980 by Malcolm McLaren when Annabella was 14, and split several times since, are now performing their first UK shows since 1982.
"I'm 45 now and I had no idea I would still be doing this for so long," the singer said.
