Bono and Edge see funny side at awards

AN uncharacteristically humble Bono and The Edge took to the stage at the Tony Awards in New York on Sunday, ahead of the official opening of their $75m (€52m) Spider-Man musical on Broadway tonight.

"We used to be famous for being in U2," Bono joked sheepishly, as the pair introduced a performance of a song from 'Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark' on the televised awards ceremony.

"When I saw the Tony Awards on our schedule, I just kind of assumed we'd been nominated," he added.

"It appears we missed the deadline," explained The Edge. "A lot of them," Bono responded.

The long-delayed and accident-prone 'Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark' was not eligible to compete for this year's Tony honours, because it had not yet officially opened.
