Angel delight: Opera falls under rough magic's spell

ONE of the great 20th-Century operas, Bertholt Brecht and Kurt Weill's 'The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny', is to be recreated in a spectacular collaboration between Rough Magic Theatre Company and the Opera Theatre Company.

The production, which was announced this weekend, has been made possible through a major funding boost from Sky Arts Ignition.

Rough Magic won the award, despite some very strong competition from Ireland's leading arts organisations. The production will take place in a specially redesigned Olympia Theatre from June 12-22, 2014. Right, Angels Sarah Shine and Cormac Lawlor. Photo: Julian Behal
