Alesha happy to be MC-ing again

Alesha Dixon says she was happy to be able to do some MC-ing on her new album.

Those who remember the singer's days with R&B trio Mis-Teeq will know about her famed MC skills, and while her first solo outing The Alesha Show aimed to get away from that sound, her latest long-player The Entertainer has one or two MC spots.

"I'm very happy about the MC-ing again, she said. "We've always done it when we've done live shows, but I and my record label felt I should get away from that with the first album. I wanted to show people I could sing, not just spit."

The Entertainer was recorded earlier this year and saw the Strictly Come Dancing judge holed up in studios around the world with the best songwriters and producers the UK and America has to offer.

"It's a great feeling, working on something behind closed doors, but at the same time there is this strange sensation - you love it but you don't know if anyone else likes it. It's not doubt," she said emphatically. "That's the wrong word!

"If I doubted anything about the album I wouldn't put it out. It's just that moment where you sit and think, 'God I hope people like this'."

Performance is also a big issue for the former Mis-Teeq star, and Alesha says she only has to hear a song once and she'll be thinking about how it can be staged when it comes to next year's tour.

"Creatively, I really want to push things and I really want to do things in bigger venues as well," she says. "I don't think I'll be satisfied as an artist until I'm playing in arenas and huge venues. That's a huge goal for me."
