Sam Worthington may be in demand as an action hero, but the Australian actor describes himself as a "pussycat" in real life.

The Clash Of The Titans star confessed: "I only get to act tough in the movies. I stay at home, do washing, I stay out of trouble."

In his latest film, Man On A Ledge, Sam plays escaped convict Nick Cassidy, who takes to a ledge high above New York in a bid to clear his name.

"In movies I get to kill aliens and take monsters on, and stand on the ledge of a building, but in real life, simple mice scare me," he teased.

Sam also joked that his new movie steals "the best bits" from some of his favourite films.

The 35-year-old stars as a convicted thief trying to clear his name in the action thriller, which also stars Elizabeth Banks and Jamie Bell.

"We wanted the tone to be something quite fun. I watched a movie called The Negotiator, and a movie called Phone Booth," he said.

"We just stole the best bits from them and put them in our movie, because I like those films, and I like something that is unashamedly a popcorn film."

He added: "That's the only reason I do this job is to entertain an audience."

:: Man On A Ledge opens in the UK on Friday, February 3.
