Reese Witherspoon is "attached" to star in Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus.

The Oscar-winning actress is rumoured to be taking the lead role in Bryan Buckley's big-screen adaptation of John Gray's self-help book, reported Deadline.

It is not known what Reese's character will be, and further casting has yet to be announced.

Shooting on the film, which has been written by Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont, is scheduled to start in January 2013.

Reese, last seen in spy comedy This Means War, will next star in drama Mud with Matthew McConaughey.

Other upcoming big-screen outings include thriller Devil's Knot with Colin Firth, Big Eyes opposite Ryan Reynolds and Glee creator Ryan Murphy's musical One Hit Wonders alongside Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz and Beyonce.

Reese, who has two children with ex-husband Ryan Philippe and is currently expecting her first child with new husband Jim Toth, is also hoping to star in and produce the Pennyroyal's Princess Boot Camp film.
